The polypropylene (PP) is the thermoplastic polymer, partially crystalline, that is obtained from the polymerisation of the propylene.

The PP is transformed by means of many different processes. The most used they are:

  • Moulding by injection of a great diversity of pieces, from toys to bumper of automobiles
  • Blow moulding of hollow containers like for example bottles or fuel tanks.
  • Extrusion of profiles, laminae and tubes.
  • Production of film, in particular: Molded film (" cast film"). Blown film (" blown film"), a small market at the moment (2007) but in fast growth.
A great part of the PP degrees is apt for contact with foods and a minority can be used in medical or pharmaceutical applications.
